Durock / insert mudding question

Hi All,

I will be taping and mudding my seams on the Durock later this evening and had a question. As seen in the picture, I have a Reditile niche installed. Do I fiber tape around the insert and then mud? Should I just mud?

I also plan on putting 2+ coats of Redgard on all walls. Should I not mud and only rely on the Redgard? Should I do all 3?

Thanks Everyone.

Durock / insert mudding question

I tape and mortar everything.

I'm not sure about that insert. You might want to check with the manufacturer about what to do with the edges, but I imagine you will tape and mortar them as well.

I prefer to use denshield, then you don't need to liquid waterproof everything.

After doing more research, looks like you use 100% silicone caulk around the perimeter, let cure, then RedGard it!.

Thanks.
