Countertop width next to stove?

I know I found this information on the internet before, but can't remember what I typed in to find it again. I am planning on remodeling my kitchen and putting the stove in a small island with a bar seats around it. How much countertop should be in each side of the stove? I was thinking it was 12", but not sure. Also, if anyone has a link that shows measurments for kitchens, that would be great.

Local codes may require specific sizes beside a range, check local code. But it is always a nice thing to have space to work and place pots, etc.
