Would a single sheet of 3/4" OSB work for the substrate? We have some left over

I wouldn't use it and haven't heard of anyone else using OSB. Some of the other fellows may have some information about OSB.

i just thought i would ask since the premade laminate that is there now seems to be made of something similar

The prefabs are made out of fiber board or particle board, a whole different product, I don't like any of them for counter tops though, I prefer plywood.
