When doing a tub surrond what is the best way to address the corners where the backer meets? I have read that you shouldn't use mortar and mesh like on seems since the planes will move differently. Is there different methods of corners for different backers, like densgaurd or densheild or cement board or hardi backer? Do you just leave the corners and then caulk them after tiling?

What's the difference between densgaurd and densheild?

How does the kerdi shower system address the corners since from their video it looks like they use mortar in the corners?

I always thinset my corners and use mesh tape. Never had a problem doing it that way.

Tiling standards say to tape and thinset all seams. The exception is the wall to floor/shower base/tub deck. That calls for a 1/4" gap.

Densguard (or Densarmor) is a tile backer.
Denshield is a paperless drywall.

All Kerdi seams are to be overlapped by 2" or covered with Kerdi-Band. Kerdi is installed using a non-modified thinset.

After tiling, use silicone in all plane changes; corners, wall to floor/ceiling.
