Cedar Casement Windows In The Bathroom Shower

I will be remodeling two of my bathrooms which have cedar casement windows. Both windows have been stained again and again and protected by a clear plastic cover. It's time to remove the plastic.

Q. Is there a clear stain/varnish on the market that will seal & protect the wood frame/sill ?

I have no problem in replacing both of these windows, however cannot find a supplier that has windows with wood exterior and aluminum/vinyl interior. All I see is just the reverse; therefore I will not be able to match the exterior color of a new window with all the other windows.

Hope you see what I mean. All my windows have been maintained are in excellent condition both in/out.

All comments & suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Linseed oil is a good stain/protector.

I'm wondering if you managed to find a wood window like these that would work to replace the old ones, would it still need something like linseed oil?

Just to clarify: This window is in the shower?
If so, is the shower is used daily?
Do you have a pic?

There are spar or outdoor polyurethanes that may help.
That, using a good 100%silicone caulk, and trimming the sill at an angle so water won't sit on it may also help.
Even so, you want to be meticulous about the upkeep, and dry it off after showering.

Having wood in a shower is not a good idea. It tends to rot.
Having a window in a shower is not a good idea. It tends to be a weak spot for water entering and damaging the wall.
Hate to say it, but in a shower your best solution is to protect it from direct water hitting it. This pretty much means covering it back up or removing it entirely.
