Cabinets To Go!

I tried to use Cabinets To Go.

Problem is that they are out of stock on some items, and when I was told they'll be in stock shortly, they never were.

I'm talking about a 7 month time span.

Shortly is 7 months?

Besides I found a local place selling very similar RTA cabinets for less.

Finally checking into the forum to see how CTG has fared with you all. Getting mixed results has my wife and I re-thinking our plan to use CTG. I found a retired co-worker that is also a cabinet maker, so I'll have him chime in on our planned kitchen remodel.

Just to clarify things to Danger Mouse, I'm not an agent or "shill" for CTG. I'm a retired Los Angeles City firefighter wanting to update a dated kitchen and I value the honest opinions of the people who frequent this forum. That's all.

Cabinets To Go!

Well I have a small conpany a few min. outisde of Boston. I do have comments on CTG kitchen cabinets. WHAT A BANG FOR YOUR BUCK! we have installed 10 CTG kitchens in the past couple years along with other lines. We are snobs when it comes to quality so I myself was quite surprised in the quality of these cabinets: Solid wood doors, plywood boxes, dovetail in almost all their lines, full extension drawers along with soft close. Yes some assembly required but the savings is many thousands of dollars. Yes,I have put these in homes 1/2 mill or better. People want a good product for their buck without going into debt. Check them out!

Daisy

You've raised some extremely valid points and I appreciate your opinion. I, to, am sick and tired of all the garbage we import from overseas while we lose precious jobs here. My wife and I are planning on putting our house on the (sucky) real estate market this Spring. Our kitchen is clean and functionally, but tired, worn and dated. It hasn't been remodeled since 1978. We thought Cabinets To Go would save us a pretty penny but now I am concerned about the quality, as well. Time for more research.

Cabinets To Go!

I'm using this cabinet line in my kitchen remodel but I didn't purchase them through Cabinets to Go. I went with the Victoria Ivory collection. Anyone have any experience with this collection? I had a neighbor who is a carpenter look at a door given to me by the kitchen remodeling co we are using & he said it was a very well made door. That made me feel better because there is very limited information on the web about these cabinets. I would be curious to hear from owners who've had the cabinets installed for a number of years and to know how they are holding up.

Cabinets To Go!

Hi guys I'm pulling up an old thread that I found here.

I'm thinking about purchasing cheaper cabinets from CABINETS TO GO.

It would save a lot of money over big box stores and the quotes I got from contractors who would have installed more expensive pressed wood

I went to Cabinets To Go (CTG) and the quote came out pretty cheap but I wanted to know what happened with others here?

How has the quality held up? I noticed that many that posted here only have one post so hopefully people are still active or can update how things went with CTG?

Also I suppose I could assemble the boxed cabinets, but I was wondering about hanging them? I've never done this myself before and was wondering if it's something you all think a newbie could do?

Cabinets To Go!

Hi Crayola110,

So far, so good with our new CTG cabinets. I love the finish - very easy to keep clean & have been very impressed with quality, feel & look of cabinets. Many friends & neighbors have come to see my remodeled kitchen & all have been extremely complimentary of the cabinets. I used a remodeling firm to do my kitchen which meant the cabinets were professionally installed. I think that has made a huge difference because they were able to make custom cuts. I'd feel confident in the product. I'm happy & hope this helps.

I've had my cabinets up for almost 18 months now. They still look great. The soft closing drawers work great and the the hinges are still smooth.

I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. They don't look or feel like cheap cabinets.

Thanks guys. I was thinking of getting their cheapest cabinets. What color finish did u go with. I got quoted for $1650 for white and $1850 for espresso

Also I was wondering if birch was a good type of wood. I'm pretty sure that's what the cabinets are made from but. I'm not 100% sure?

I have the espresso. It's a very nice quality finish, doesn't look cheap at all.

Birch is a good wood for cabinets.

Thanks so much. I think I will pull the trigger and buy them. I was a little afraid because the price is relatively low for cabinets so I thought it might lack quality. And because they're in boxes that must be assembled that are made in China instead of the US like many cabinets.

Anyways, I was wondering if you guys installed yourself or assembled at least? Should I attempt this?

At a price that low, there's probably very little actual wood in those cabinets. The boxes are almost certainly veneered particle board. There's nothing wrong with that or with RTA (ready-to-assemble) cabinets if that's what you can afford (I have used them a couple of times); just understand what you're getting. In my current house, the wall oven cabinet alone was more than the quoted $1850 for your entire kitchen.

Actually the boxes are plywood---and have a rather simple fastening system----
A customer of mine bought, assembled and installed a kitchen full---he said the assembly went smoothly---

Kitchen looked good---he did say that the clerk miss ordered one cabinet---so do check the order against your own drawing----

Wow, plywood boxes at that price. No wonder my local Cabinets to Go went out of business.
