blocking behind base cabinets?

Do you put 1x4 blocks or cleats behind base cabinets?

Are cleats or blocking needed on the wall behind the base cabinets? My laminate overhang is now about 1 3/4". My sink is butted to the backsplash and barely fit inside the face of the sink base cabinet. I had to trim out some on the inside of the sink base frame. Clamping the sinking was hard due to limited clearance. I'm not quite flush with the wall behind the sink counter, there is a 1/8" gap from wall to backsplash, I should have scribed a little, still think the overhang is a lot. What do you think?

Under normal situations, no blocking. Shims may be needed to keep the cabinet fronts straight and the backs tight to the wall.
