bathtub refinish
what is the difference between reglazing -vs- epoxy method for refinishing a bathtub

Since I do this professionally for a living, I can tell you a little about it. First, I'm not sure if by "epoxy method" you're talking about the DIY kits available at the home stores, or someone who wants to spray epoxy on your tub. In either case, epoxy is one of the worst materials for this purpose for these reasons:
- very poor color retention - tends to "yellow" within about 6 months
- terrible odor that lasts for about a week
- extremely long cure time - also about a week
- very brittle - tends to crack and chip easily

If someone is trying to convince you to use epoxy, they have no idea what they're talking about. If you're thinking about trying one of the DIY kits, all I can tell you is I've never seen anyone satisfied with the results. And I've re-done many of them either because they didn't last 6 months or they just looked horrible.

IMHO, bathtub refinishing is best left to a professional for these reasons:
- an extensive prep process is necessary that may require special solvents, acids, and specialized knowledge
- the DIY'er does not have access to the proper chemicals or procedures
- the DIY'er cannot purchase the right kind of primer and glaze
- the DIY'er usually doesn't have access to the right kind of spray equipment, nor the training and experience to use it

The thing you have to be careful of is there are some hacks in this business. You have to do your homework to find someone who really knows what they're doing. Stay away from el-cheapo pricing and Craigslist ads. Please let me know if I can be of any help.

Should you get your tub reglazed before installing new tile around the tub?

epoxy method is not quite old and not very good for health

Get your tub reglazed if it needs it - this is not cheap.

Basically, reglazing a bathtub is refinishing and resurfacing it. Whenever an old bathtub begins to get worn out, you will reglaze it and it will cause the surface to appear like new again. The new glaze finish that will be left on the surface of your tub will add years to its life and will also make it look like new again.
