Question

Bathtub installation issue-

We realize that the gentleman who installed our tub did not put in a stringer. Unfortunately, we did not realize this until we already starting putting up most of the concrete board around the tub.

I have access to both sides. I can get it from a closet on one side, and I have to rip out the vanity to get to the other side.

Is there a way to fix this without taking down everything we did?

If we called a plumber to install the tub should he have known to put the stringer in, or should we have had this set up for him? I'm not sure what the expectation is.

We're in a bit of a panic, but aren't really sure how bad this is. We're just really hoping there's a way to fix this without ruining all the work we've already done. Plus, I think if we move the tub we'd have to call the plumber again for a re-install. Which would be expensive.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you,
Sam

A few more details?

Not all tubs require a stringer board---what tub ? does the instructions for that tub ask for a stringer board?

Re: Bathtub installation issue-

The instructions do call for a stringer board and is not on a mud bed.

The stringer board seems to be a support beam that's secured to the wall, opposite of the tub skirt.

Re: Bathtub installation issue-

I just installed an Americast tub, which also called for a ledger board opposite the skirt. Without it, I don't see what's going to keep that tub from wiggling around when somebody steps on it. I also set mine in a bed of mortar due to the floor not being perfectly level. If you have access from the other side, you might be able to somehow get a 2 X 4 in and secure it up against the skirt of the tub. I would double check and make sure the tub is sitting level in both directions also.
