Bathroom venting near gable vent?

Howdy,
Our bathroom has a ventilation fan, but it vents into the attic, so I want to run a vent out through the side of the house. The gable end of the attic is less than 3 feet away.
If I head straight out, I will come out less than a foot below the gable vent.

My question is:
Should I be concerned about the wet air working its way back into the attic through the gable vent, or will this be OK?

The alternative would be to mount a vent fan in a bathroom wall, and run the ducting through an adjacent closet. This would make the outlet several feet away from the gable vent.

Hope all this makes sense.
Thanks,
John

If the vent is already in the attic, can't you open a hole in the roof away from the gable vent?

I could, but frankly I am too chicken to cut a hole in the roof ;-)
When I was a kid, I recall a roofing DIY project I helped my father do which went wrong, and I have shied away from roof work ever since.

You will need to get on a ladder to mount the vent. How steep is the roof?

No, it's not the height or pitch.
I'm not confident in the sealing and waterproofing, and would rather go through the wall with it.

There might be less water on the houses side, but you still need to make it water tight.
