bathroom venting

i am upgrading a bathroom and venting the bathroom to vent outside the house will be difficult. How bad is it if the bath is not vented (concerned about stream from hot showers) or just put in a fan unit and let it vent into the attic area (not accessable)

Very bad, and not allowed.

No fan can cause paint and drywall to deteriorate faster. A fan that exhausts into the attic creates moisture problems that can become major. It can create mold issues and condense on the underside of roof sheathing causing rot.

If you can get it to the attic, you can install a roof cap to get it outside.

it will have bad consequences

I actually need to do this very same project. Is installing a roof cap pretty simple?

You owe it to the house, yourself and the next homeowner to do the proper thing. Install the vent because its the way it should be. Its necessary.

I am a complete DIY idiot and I did this successfully. Here is a useful instructional video I found:

Just compile the right materials and tools, and be careful while up on the roof. It's not that hard and you will feel good for having done it.
