bathroom shower remodel

I am replacing a 32x32 shower. Would prefer to put in a preformed plastic/fiberglass/etc type pan. Any recommendations on a quality pan ? What about the shower walls ? Wife prefers some type of solid walls, but could do tile if less expensive. How would I prep the studs for either type of install ? Is ther any internet instructional on this type of work?

Well there are plenty of posts on this site alone. Just use the search feature. I know I have replied to many.
As for the walls, I came here today to post something for all DIYers but I'll drop it in here too.
As for the walls, there's a misconception. Even though sometimes local building codes state this as the minimum requirement for wet location walls, "greenboard" is totally useless! If you're not tiling the area and choose to use a fiberglass surround, I STILL RECOMMEND THE USE OF A MOISTURE-PROOF MATERIAL. That's either some kind of cement board or GP's DensArmor.

Why not greenboard? I'm remodeling a bathroom this week. Here's the shower area that had a fiberglass pan and fiberglass walls. Now will you still want to use greenboard?

Would you recommend using backerboard on top of sheetrock. I have the studs exposed, so if I could just install backerboard on the studs. What are your thoughts?

Thanks,

What are you attempting to do? Shower? Tub surround?

Backerboard shouldn't be installed over sheetrock. No need to do that under any circumstance.

Solid wall panels might be easier for you in the long run. They can get pricey though, and require exact fabrication to work out with wall dimensions and plumbing penetrations.

Spend as much as you can on the shower pan. Cheap ones are pretty crumby and will cause you lots of headaches.
