bathroom cabinets

I have purchased bathroom vanity and cabinets that have to be assembled. I haven't had a problem except for the butt joints in the base cabinet. When I try to screw them in they split. Any ideas?

Not sure what you mean by butt joints on the cabinets. Could you explain it in a little more detail or even post a photo?
