Bathroom Backsplash Question
Ok, so I'm in the middle of a bathroom remodel (still in the plumbing stage), and we decided to change our plans slightly and add a tile backsplash/accent strip that goes around the room. Since it's going to be small tile (only a strip 5 3/4" high) and not in a constant state of high moisture exposure, I'm going to apply thinset directly to the new drywall. I thought about using a mastic, but I'm not really sure if that's really the best bet.

Anyways, I have a question about finishing the top edge of the tile where it meets the drywall. Do I use silicon caulking that matches the grout, or can it be left exposed?

No silicone there---paint will roll off of it---If that treatment must be used---use a color match grout from the file /grout manufacturer.

Fine installations would use a metal tile edging --Schluter has a good selection--many colors and styles.

Is there any harm in leaving it untreated and exposed in this situation since there wouldn't be direct water contact, or would it just be safer to put it in? This will be put in place after painting.

It's just a look---I do not like the look of a raw tile edge capped with grout---

I see it a lot, so it is acceptable to some folks---so it you like the look--go right ahead---

Well it is glass tile, not ceramic, so the edge is essentially the same. That's why I asked about leaving it unfinished due to not wanting to make more work than necessary:)
