bath fan roof hood creating ice dam
I remodeled my bath a couple years ago and thought I was being wise by installing a vent fan. I went through the roof with it using a common hood that directs the moist air right on the roof creating a big ice dam! It's very cold here in northern Minnesota!! Is there something different I can use on the roof that is higher to help this problem?

It will always do that, due to the warm moist air, is reacting to the cold pile of snow around the vent. You need a Roof Rake, to get the snow off of your roof, to stop it. Also making sure that your bath fan has a self closing damper on it, to not let house air out through the vent, when it is not running.

Thanks for the info. There's been times when there was no snow on the roof and this still happens!! Isn't there a different type of hood, pipe, something that will let this exhaust up higher and not right on to the roof?
