Bath fan exhaust pipe

I just installed 60CFM bath fan. I can run exhaust pipe vertically to the roof about 10'-12' tall. Or I can run the pipe to the soffit that is about 18'-20' long. What do you recommend? I heard that the roof installation can create an ice buildup issue on the roof.

Thanks,

Leo
