30" Cabinets to the ceiling? Soffit?

30" Cabinets to the ceiling? Soffit?

I am going to be replacing my cabinets with 30" wall cabinets. I have 7.5' ceilings. I really like the look the cabinets all the way to the ceiling with crown molding. My current cabinets are 30" and stop a fair amount below the ceiling... so I'm guessing that soffiting down is the only way to achieve this look? I'm wondering if it's not going to look bad to soffit down.

30" Cabinets to the ceiling? Soffit?

Normal cabinet spacing is 84" high(36+18+30), your ceiling is 90". A 6" soffitt would be preferrable to raising the cabinets 6". unless you are very tall.

Thanks Bill.. I read today that many people are opting for 20" backsplashes now. I supposed leaving the cabinets 4" from the ceiling and adding crown molding would look pretty nice as well. I think I've got a couple of options.
