Where and how to cut the drain pipe

I need to replace a toilet flange that has been leaking for a long time and has rotted the subfloor. I'm not sure where to make the cut in the drain pipe. Does it matter? I tried using a Dremel tool to cut off the pipe about 3" below the flange but kept breaking the blades. I haven't tried a hack saw yet. I also have a sawzall, but not sure if it will make a clean enough cut. Where would be the best place to make the cut? I'm attaching some pics to give an idea of what I'm dealing with.

Thanks

Where and how to cut the drain pipe

I just did the almost exact same repair. I got a repalcement flange and aslo a coupler that went insdie the pipe and then the new flange fits inside the coupler. I cut the old flange right where it connects to the pipe, ie just below the flange. I used a hacksaw.

hacksaw for the win here. a recip saw is faster and okay if you have the right blade and can fit it in there. debur your pipe after cutting either way.
