Whats this?


Just bought a house that Has two of these under The kitchen sink. One on each water line going to the faucet.
What is it?

Whats this?


the white item in back is a weight for the sprayer hose,, the other connection is something rigged, no way those elastic bands are helping, I would change out the supply lines,, no, I"m not a plumber but that connection doesn't look safe.

Those aren't "rubber bands" it's copper wire that's corroded. The only thing that I can think of is it's some kind "stop" (shut-off valve) the kind used in a tub valve for apartments (they don't shut off the entire appt building to repair valve.) Why the wire is there is beyond me.

I think you are right. It's some sort of stop valve. It has a large slot on the flat end for a screwdriver.
For a short period I thought it was a flow regulator but the house does not have unusually high pressure.

The other stuff I think is Teflon tape in bad shape.

Thank you very much for your input.

As for the wire... I think we will never know the [intended!] purpose !!
