What is sink drain/tub drain piping called?

I was thinking about trying to convert part of my tub drain to the plastic pipe that uses those screw on compression fittings. Id like to know what its called so I can research it.

It says its 1 1/2 inch but its not the same size as 1 1/2 inch pvc pipe.

Then you use a 1-1/2 adapter.

Thanks.

After looking around it doesnt really seem to have a name. Plastic tubing was the closest thing. Searching for slip joint brought up a lot of stuff.

Tubular tub waste

Joe Caption is on the money, again. I just had an old tub pulled and replaced with a new tub and I paid for new ABS "Trip Lever Bath Drain". That is what Watts, the manufacturer, calls the set I bought at Home Depot. I think some call it a waste/overflow line.

most people call it polyethylyne

Waste/overflow assembly:)

Check your building code. I was told that those slip fitting tub waste drains aren't legal in my state if they are in an enclosed space. They are legal if there is ready access. I had to have one ripped out and replaced with a glued up ABS drain.

I would never use a slip joint connection under a tub. They are usually inaccessable.

I switched to PVC. Someone said theyre not to code if you dont have an access panel. Which I can see why that would be a good idea.
