What kind of arrester to get for washing machine water hammer
I need advice on what kind of arrester to get for my washing machine water hammer. It occurs on the cold water supply multiple times when the washer is filling, as it cuts cold water in and out in order to make the water the proper temperature. I've looked on Amazon.com and seen so many choices by Sioux Chief, Oatey, etc., and many different types. I don't know what type to get. I've attached a picture of the valve and line going to the washing machine. If it helps any, the supply pipe is 5/8" copper; the valve and attached hose are "standard" as far as I know. Can any arrester be installed vertically, as my valve outlet seems to be? Thanks for any help.

This is how I did it (very inexpensive but effective).
If you are going to replace the shutoff, I would look into replacing it with a quarter turn valve. |

The easiest solution--http://www.amazon.com/Sioux-Chief-660-H-4-Inch-Female/dp/B000H5MQNM
Mount it on your machine, the hoses hang down and loop back up to your bib. Every Sioux Chief I've installed said any position was fine

Just a note, if those air chambers would have been sized correctly you may have had no problems.
