Question

What the flange?

Hey All,

I was planning on replacing the flange in the bathroom as I suspected it to be leaking. When I pulled the toilet one of the bolts came up with it since it was so rusted. As you can see in the photo the problem I have is the flange appears to be in some sort of ceramic. I'm thinking of just going at it with a hammer to get access to the rusted flange which will open up more work (releasing it from a CI pipe). What, if any, are your opinions.

Photo attached, red circles are where one bolt rusted out and another that just spins around.

Thanks for any help.

What you have there is a cast iron flange packed with 3 pounds of plumbers putty---

Just scrape that dried putty out of there and the bolts should just lift out of the notches in the edge of the flange.

Brass bolts should have been used.---Mike--
