My shower is leaking around the outside of the drain, not inside the drain (see read spot on attached picture). What ever they used to seal between the shower pan and the drain has created a leak. I know the correct way would be to rip this out and redo it. But I'd like to try putting a sealant in the gap. What would be good sealant to use to fix this?
I don't think there is a "good" sealant for this application because anything will fail over time. The only right way to fix it is to take off the drain and re-install. You could throw some silicone around the drain and hope for the best, but you are on borrowed time.
Some advice you receive on the internet can be worth exactly what you paid for it - be careful.
clean out that area around the fitting with rubbing alcohol and old tooth brush scrub it goooood.get yourself a 2 part epoxy and first apply it around the ring area and wipe away they extra so you push it down tight into the plastic to tub contact point.let it set for a couple of days and repeat the application again leaving a little more......let that set and your tight.
