Well Pump wiring with standard control box

On a 5hp motor can you use a standard 5hp control box and wire the line 1 and 2 into a standard pressure switch and then to control box from there? Or is there too much amps on that pressure switch? Do i need a deluxe control box with contactor in it in order to use normal pressure switch?

yes,you will need some type of motor contacts in which the pressure switch controls.

Thanks Rudolph i kind of thought you needed a seperate contactor in order to hold the amount of juice going down to the motor. A well guy told me you can only control a 2 hp motor and smaller on a normal pressure switch (and with standard control box of course). Is this correct? Is there a certain size contactor box i should get for this 5 hp.

didn't you just agree that you needed a pump controller WITH a contactor in it?

check the pressure switch. There should be rating right on it. If it is not rated for 5hp or more, you must use a controller with a contactor in it.

yes i do agree. A standard box has no contactor. A deluxe box has a contactor in it. What i want to know is do they sell a seperate contactor box for the standard control box. Nap

Ah, I misunderstood what you were asking.

I am not aware of a separate contactor box but if the room allows, there is no reason you could not incorporate a contactor in the controller that I can think of but to do it, or tell somebody how to do it, I would have to see the thing and any associated diagrams etc.
