well pump not turning on when it should

we have been having a problem with our well for some time now. the water would shut off and turn back on eventually turning off for longer peiods of time. finally the other day the well pump went. we got it replaced and its still doing the same thing. our well pump is down 680 feet and it is 1 1/2 hp. we checked the psi on the preasure tank and it is at 28. its a 30 50 preasure switch. now what happens is the water will run and when the psi drops to the turn on the water fades and then comes on when it does this about 2 or 3 times the pump doesnt kick on again. could my pump be getting clogged with sediment? or is my well maybe running dry? hope someone can help

You had the pump replaced, presumably by a professional who charged you appropriately for the service. I would immediately go back to them, as they presumably ran a complete check on your system when they installed the new pump, including a check on your pressure tank, supply lines, pump motor controls, and pressure switch. We can speculate at length over the internet, but your installer was there, saw the system, installed the pump, ran the tests, and if anyone can tell you what the trouble is, they can.

Does the pressure switch have a lever on the side of it?

Is it a new pressure switch?

Sometimes the tube between the pressure switch and the water line will clog, causing a delay in detection of pressure drop which sounds possibly like what you are describing.

Just a guess here, but when that happens, your pump may be kicking on and off too much, and causing the pump control to act up??? Your pump control has a delay switch in it, when it shuts the pump off, it has a timer that can be adjusted i think from 5 min up to 1 hr depending on the model.

Does the switch actually kick over at 30 psi, or are you just watching the gauge? If the switch is actually kicking over at 30 psi, then this isn't your problem.

What kind of piping goes down to the bottom of your well? Did the person who replaced the pump check the water level?

It is a new pressure switch.....we watched the gauge and it will kick the pump on at 30 psi twice then it wont again for like an hour or so.....the pipe is black thick plastic and the guy said he started seeing signs of water after about 120 feet of pipe but the well wasn't used for 2 days until we got the pump replaced
