Well pump with chemical holding tank Irrigation System

My 30 gal holding tank with rid-a-rust chemicals appears to have drained back into the irrigation system just after 1 use (approx 2 hour run time). I'm told this may have been caused by a reverse pressure situation and that the check valve may have gone bad. Any advice?

A check valve isn't going to cut it. You'll need to have a backflow preventer installed, ie- reduced pressure backflow preventer (aka RP backflow preventer). Or maybe a double check backflow preventer.

Check with the local authorities as they will best to provide with what's required in your area.

When harmful or potentially deadly items may get added to the potable water, such as in your case, you must address this properly and without delay.

Quick question. What else is isolating your boiler from the house's water supply? What I'm getting at is how did this reverse pressure system backflow into the irrigation system and not the whole house?

What I didn't state earlier is that this system worked well for 2 years. It was only this spring when I started it up that I had the back flow problem.
Seems something has failed in the system to cause my 30 gallon holding tank to drain into the system.
