Well Pressure Tank - Maintenance?

I moved into a house with a well. I have no experience with bladder pressure tanks.

The seller said something to me about how the pressure tank flushes its tank every so many gallons of water.
This stood out to me, because I figured I would notice this large tank automatically flushing its contents every now and then into the floor drain.

I have read a few sites about pressure tank maintenance and none of them mention this type of flushing.
They all said how to check the pre-charge, but I see no mention of an auto flush feature or an interval that I am to flush it myself.

I live in a high-iron content area, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Does anyone have any experience with this?
The tank looks <5 years old and is probably 50-75 gallons.

Awesome! That looks pretty simple. Just like flushing a hot water heater.
I guess I misunderstood him when he said it flushed every so many gallons.
I thought he meant it did it automatically with some time of gauge that knew when it was "full" of sediment.

I'll try it out tonight to see if there is any sediment.

Edro,

Your seller may be talking about a softer & iron curtain system. Depending on the system they meter water flow and cycle. Have you seen more than 1 tank.

I have a water softener system, but those aren't steel tanks like this blue one. The softener cycles almost every day, flushing with water, but its overflow is just a drip.

He made it sound like the pressure tank flushed every 100 gallons or something.

Yeah, I'm not sure what you have got either. Never heard of an autoflush on a well pressure tank. I'm also not foolish enough to say that something can't exist either. Just have never run into that myself. I have a well supplier I can talk to in the a.m. and see what he thinks.
