What type well? Is the pump in the well?
If not then your going to have to just look at where it entered the home and hope they just dug a straight trench to the well and start digging.

try witching them. use two coathangers bent into a L and hold the short end in each hand when they cross you will have found your water line. Dosent work for everyone, but works for me.

merle,

do you sand paper the part of the metal coat hanger you hold to remove any plastic/sealant from the hanger?

No I never have, I just cut them and bend them into a L shape. You can sand them if you so desire tho.

Well lines

Metal lines? Use a metal detector or line tracer.
Plastic lines? Feed a wire or metal snake down the line and use the line locator.
Submersible pump? Trace the electric wires.
