Weak Faucet, Strong Sprayer

I put some serious force on the spout retaining ring with some channel locks and it didn't want to move at all. (Marred the finish slightly though through the rag I was using to protect the faucet. )
Definitely was turning it counterclockwise.
I had the faucet nearly removed to check out how it was put together on the underside, but I determined its not coming apart from the underside.
Its no big deal to replace the faucet-I just don't want to drop the cash on something better as I am in the process of selling the house.
I don't really know what the diverter valve actually looks like-but could I run a wire through the spout and have any hope of fixing the problem that way?

Is the retainer metal or plastic? Have you tried inserting a thin screwdriver or knife blade under that piece and seeing if it might pop off? Maybe it is just a cover and the nut is underneath.

I don't think a wire is going to do any good. It might even make things worse.

The retainer is metal. If it didn't move at all when I had the channelocks on it, its not going to pop off. Good idea though. I'm beginning to think that this is some weird one piece spout/base assembly.

The reason I thought it might pop off is because it wouldn't turn. Maybe it has a notch on the inside. I know I'm reaching here but I also know that the spout will come off, the trick is figuring out how.

In reality, it probably unscrews but is just stuck. Did you try the jar opener pad and channel locks. Sometimes a rag will slip and the rubber won't. Even then you still run the risk of scratching it up.

If I think of anything else I'll post you. Try the rubber pad and let me know how if it works.
