Water warm, not HOT after faucet repair?!?

As I said in my earlier post; I just replaced a failed two-handle shower set- valves only. After I turned the water supplies back on and burped all the lines. All was fine, no leaks. About six hours later though, my daughter complained that the water was not very hot. I confirmed that a few hours later. The faucets all through the house would deliver hot; but not even cup of coffee hot water. I reset the breakers in the middle of the night. This morning the water is hotter in some faucets; but still not up to speed int my upstairs shower. The shower I fixed is on the floor below. The valve set I used both say R.H. Hot/Cold, so I assume they are both ok. I did notice that the Shower valve body is hot on both sides at each valve. Any ideas what might be causing this. The circuit breakers did not seem to have been tripped?

Thanks,

Ed

MdangermouseM,

Knob off of the hot valve on the shower valve? If this is what you are asking, then I have to ad that this is an older style valve- not a cartridge type.

I don't know where else there might be an adjuster of any kind. Is that what you mean?

Fixed!

OK, Here is what happened...

When I removed the valve from the cold water side, there was no longer a valve to restrict water from flowing through the shower head when I turned the water supply back on so I removed the shower head and capped it. Then I also capped the valve body until I replaced the faulty valve. I chose to replace both valves (H and C) because the other one was starting to show a slow leak as well. I chose new complete valves; rather than rebuilding them. After I replaced the valves, and saw they were not leaking at all, I turned the water supply back on; but left the cap on the shower stub. Since I had to repair the torn out shower wall, I figured there was no sense in putting the shower head as no one would be using the shower until it was repaired anyway. Then the water in my shower was warm not hot. In fact all the faucets were giving only moderately Hot water. I though my water heater was going or something.

This morning I let the cold water run in the kitchen so I could swallow my medications. I ended up with a mouth full of warm water???
That is when it hit me that the valves were never turned to the "closed" position. I hadn't installed the knobs yet; so I did not trip on this oversight. With a pair of pliers I turned both new valve stem to the full closed position and the problem was solved. It never occurred to me that open valves that usually dispense the water allowed the capped off stream to recirculate into the rest of the household.

So there you go.

Thanks for the input.
