Water stain on ceiling

I just noticed a small stain (light brown about the size of a lemon) on my dining room ceiling. The master bathroom is located on the 2nd floor in the same area. I don't see any leaks in the toilet or around tub. What could be causing this and what is involved in repair? Plumber? Drywall? Help!!! Thanks!

It could be as simple as someone got water on the floor and it soaked down or a leak through the tile and a leaking pipe. You will need to open the ceiling and get it to leak in order to tell.

Could be a bad wax seal on the toilet.

Thanks for the info. Either way it sounds like I'm going to have to call a plumber.
