Water Softner Media Replacement

I have a two tank system. One for hard water and one for iron. At what age is water softener and iron media replaced?

Thanks.

It is more along the lines of usage and quality of water.
What is the level of iron in the water?
What is the level of hardness in the water?
What else is in the water that the systems are taking out?
How many people are in the house?
How often are the systems cleaning or regen?
Ever go with out the regen for either ..?

It really depends on the quality of the water entering the filtration systems. Are you experiencing lower than usual water pressure?? How old are the units?

if it's well water laced with tiny black flecks entering your water softener, then wouldn't the softener flush out the minerals and flecks during regeneration?

What is the level of iron in the water? Before treatment 0.50 mg/l

What is the level of hardness in the water? Before treatment 78 mg/l

What else is in the water that the systems are taking out? County tested for many inorganic chemicals. Only items over the recommended limits was iron and manganese.

How many people are in the house? 2 adults.

How often are the systems cleaning or regen? Once per week.

Ever go with out the regen for either ..? Not that I know of.

Systems was installed in 2009. Has two tall tanks with Autotrol 255 Valve / 400 Series Controls. I'm just asking if the media lasts forever as long as it goes through regeneration or if at some point it's replaced.

So, does the media get replaced after years of use or not? Does it last forever?

It won't last forever but it will last a very long time. My softener is 11 years old and still works great. The softener resin bed can get clogged with iron but there are chemicals and salt additives that will clean it out. I can't speak to your iron system.

I have a pre-filter on my system to keep junk from reaching the softener. I'm on city water and it still catches a good amount of junk. Might be worth looking into.
