Water Softener whistles

My water softener whistles only when running hot water, not cold. What is causing this? It is a Kenmore Model 625.348591.

Water Softener whistles

are ya sure it's the machine itself?
could it be a nearby supply line with a joint somewhere close?

Perhaps only the hot water is softened so water is only running through the softener when the hot water is used. Check your plumbing setup to see.

But even if that is the explanation the softener shouldn't make a whistling sound--I suspect some type of partial blockage in the valve.
