Softener hasnt produced soft water in a year. I suspect the head. In the past, I remember at night, about 3AM, hearing water rushing/hissing in the pipes, indicating softener was regenerating. havnt heard that for many months, so somethings wrong.

Its not that old. Where should I start to check it out to see if its shot entirely?
Thanks

First more information on the brand of system and if possible the head that is in use.

If you have not heard it doing a cycle it could be that the out let that it uses for power is dead.
It is possible that if it uses a transformer that the transformer is dead.

Start by finding out if there is power and if digital is the digital lit up and showing any thing.

Sounds silly, but have you checked to see if the softener is plugged in? Mine uses a small transformer like you might see for a cordless phone. Somehow, when refilling the salt tank, I accidently knocked the transformer out of the outlet, probably when removing the tank lid. Didn't notice anything was wrong until the dishes started coming out of the dishwasher with spots on them.

OK, ran it through the entire cycle, manually. Took about 2 hrs. Now, no soft water. Still keeps time. Could it be bad/depleted resin beads? So soon? Beads are supposed to last for many years......

Is it the one that goes off x number of days or the meter?
Meter one goes when x number of gallons has been used.

When it went through a cycle was salt used or did the salt go down?

Could be that the unit is not going off enough or no days are set or that the gallons is way to high or that there is a salt bridge and no salt is where the water is in the salt tank.
