Water softener

Mt softener is useing to much salt to fast. It appears it is putting too much water in the tub. It still softens the water but I can't keep up with the salt usage. I have cleaned out the tub and cleaned the screen. Steve

Is this a change?

What kind of softener?

What is the programming--particularly the brine fill time? What is the size of the Brine Line Flow Control? (the brine fill time and size of the BLFC control the amount of water added to make brine).

What is the size of the softener (cubic feet of resin)?

What is the hardness of your water?

Do you have iron and/or manganese in your water? If so, how much?

Water softener

You can usually find an owners manual online if you google the model number. The troubleshooting section will send you in the right direction. If you run into a problem I'm sure someone here can help.

Water softener

Repling to the thread/The softener has been working perfectly for 5 years. Last time it did this the softftener people could not figure out what was wrong with it and replaced the valve on the bottle. It is a Alamo brand light commercial system model 2510 top mount control valve. The softener is 10 years old. Thanks Steve

Water softener

If the softener is regenerating with the same frequency the amount of water put in for brine fill (which controls the amount of salt used because 1 gallon of water dissolves 3 lbs of salt) must have increased. Check the programming to determine how many minutes of brine fill is programmed and then observe a manual regeneration with the line to the brine tank disconnected and put in a large bucket so you can measure the time of brine fill and the amount of water. If the actual time of fill exceeds the programming the problem is either with the timer motor or, if you have an electronic control, the control board. If the time is correct then the BLFC, which is a small washer with a hole in it to control water flow may be damaged or missing. allowing higher than intended flow.

Fleck makes a model 2510 valve and it MIGHT be what is on your softener. Check here:
