Water shutoff questions

Hello all, a few questions from a new homeowner:

I found the water shutoff to the house (outside) because I needed to fix a bathtub faucet. The repair went well, but:

1. I opened the faucet after the water was shutoff, and it seemed like the water, although trickling, kept on coming out. Also when I removed the faucet cartridge, there was a lot of water coming out of there too. Is that normal? I know that I turned off the valve as tight as I could.

2. When you turn the water back on, how far do you open the valve?

Thanks for any help,

RB Wallis

Water shutoff questions

Sounds like the main shut off valve has some corrosion that is allowing some leakage. Not an uncommon problem. I'd open the valve all the way.
