Water pump schreeching

Today, I noticed a loud screeching noise coming from under my house while the water pump was running.

This concerns me that maybe the bearings might be wearing out, and/or leaking.

This is a GOULDS ½ hp jet pump, purchased and installed over 20 years ago.

The only problem I have ever experienced with it was a few years ago, when the centrifugal switch to connect the starting windings broke. A simple repair and less than $10 fixed that.

Think it's time for a new pump at this point?

Time to either rebuild it or change it. It's either bearings or the impeller rubbing on the housing

How does one go about rebuilding this type of pump?

You can get a rebuild kit from goulds.

Rebuild it if you have the capability. Paying someone to rebuild it would likely cost nearly as much or more than a new one, unless you have a friend who does it for cheap / free.
