Water pressure in sink

I discovered that there was no water flow in a sink where the faucets had been turned off at the shutoff valves for a period of time. I turned the valves and the faucets on .....thought there might just be air in the lines and finally did get a drip and after hours of leaving them on a faster steady drip. Would appreciate any thought or suggestions.
