water pooling ontop of water heater

I have a relieance sta-kleen electic water that is 6 years old. I noticed I have water pooling ontop of the heater around the water inlet. If I turn the water off, dry the water it stays dry. When I turn the water back on and use the hot water the pooling starts again. Is it time to replace the water heater or is there a fix?

I don't think it is the tank. It sounds to me like you've got a plumbing leak at the connection to the tank or slightly above it.

Can you post a picture of where the water is pooling, and the plumbing above?

Define 'turn the water off'. The cold water shut off valve at the wtr htr?

Initially it does sound like a leak between the valve and the tank. A photo would be nice.
