Water Leak Help!! 911
I got water flowing out of my sprinkler heads! Why? I changed all my sprinkler valves and replaced a couple of the leaking heads! Still flows but not as bad! When I take the head off the sprinkler water flows out a lot! I got a soaked yard and water filled drainage pipes! I can shut off the water at the house and water still flows! When I shut off at city main the flow stops! So is a broken water pipe from the main? Why is it flowing from the sprinkler heads?

Now the city is threatening to fine me!

Some place there's a control that turn the water on and off to the sprinklers.
No one here can tell you if it's simply a on off valve or an electronic control with a timer on it that's messing up.
Is this a new house to you?

The house is about 25 years old! It has an electric timer system which at this time I have shut off! It's does not seem to have any affect either way!

I have shut the water off to the sprinklers but the water still flows! The only time it does not flow is when I shut the water off at the main near the sidewalk which is the city valve!

The sprinkler shut off valve is not completely closing.

Sometimes you can pull them apart and replace the rubber seal inside, but usually after 25 years they just need replacing.

You will have to shut off water main to do this.

Replace it with a good quality ball valve.

For right now Id shut off the valves on either side of your backflow preventer for your sprinkler system.
Then Id get a plumber or sprinkler guy out there to look at your controls/solenoids on the sprinkler system :)

I already replaced all the valves they are all brand new! I do not want to call a plumber or yard man! I am doing this myself just want some ideas on what it could be and why and how!

ok some cities have 2 meters one for domestic and one for sprinklers off one tap if so are you turning of right meter also even if no power to sprinkler gates they still could stuck open is there multiple zones if so are they all doing it do you have access boxes have you found all of them have you checked them for stuck valves i can keep asking but i think it is easier for you to tell use all you have done and found then us giving you what if's where are you located at

when on does the water meter you know where at does it spin or number climb if every thing in house is off and water flowing in yard that way you know if all on one meter

Yes if everything is off and I look at the Meter near the street the number dial is moving slowly! Not as much as it was before I changed all the sprinkler valves! My house is located in California! I have 6 valves which are all brand new now!

How about your Vacuum breaker? Is it leaking water?

Javiles 02-26-2012 01:14 PM

Last year the a/c in my home started giving me trouble itís a package unit on the roof, no brazening no Freon recovery, no vacuum required the tech, quoted me a price of $4500 bucks to install. I figured I could probity DIY. Checked around I would save about A grand if I did it myself. Aim very handy and sure I could pull it off, but after considering a few factors I decided to just them do the install. Well a month later the unit failed. They came out and replaced the complete unit, no questions asked, had I installed this myself I would have had problems with the warranty and who knows what as I am not a certified A/C contractor, lesson here, some things best left to pros, donít expect a pro to solve your problem on line, and then get pissed when you get an answer you take to heart. Sprinklers can very simple or extremely complex, here to work on sprinklers you have to have a plumbers license or have a certified irrigation certificate, people ***** and complain about what companies charge but have no clue as to what is required to legally operate a plumbing company not mention the years of experience behind the name. Sure you have some plumbing companies that take pricing to the extreme but that why you first shop around. A legally operating company runs the risk of having its license pulled by the state if they get pricing complaints, the legal term if financial misconduct. When you call a plumber you pay for experience and his operating cost a large part imposed by the local government feeís to operate. the basic, fleet maintenance , 2 or 3 different liability insurances, not mention worker comp. and of course we have to turn some type of a profit. Remember that next time you use your convenient indoor plumbing.:censored:

mkpr56 02-26-2012 01:20 PM

Yeah power is on and all valves connected! The system is a lawn genie system which is digital! System is set and works fine running the programs!
