Default water heater wont stay lit Help

I have a Richmond gas water heater the pilot went out and now when I light it the pilot will light and stay lit until I adjust the temp. As soon as I turn it up any at all you can see it light and then it goes out even the pilot I was told it was the thermocoupler but I replaced it and it is still doing the same thing Please help I have two kids and need my hot water back

Make sure the thermcouple tip if fully in the pilot flame, and that the flame is high enough, and blue(not yellow). Also not a bad idea to clean out around the pilot and burner.

If it has a yellow flame it may be that that it not getting enough air due to dirt or spider webs and the oxygen depletion unit is shutting it down. A blast of canned air down the pilot tube will generally clean it out and you'll have a blue flame when you relight.

Also check the gas valves and be sure they are all open 100% I have seen that same thing happen because someone turned off the gas and only reopened it partly .
