water heater & furnace platform

I am considering locating water heater and furnace together in the garage. I would need an 18" platform for both. I've seen platforms large enough for only a water heater, but is there one that can fit both furnace and water heater or would I have to build my own? Also, I would need to level it since it will sit on sloped ground. I think I might be better off building one, but just want to see what ideas other people may have. If I build one, it would be out of wood. is there any special criterias I have to follow?

use treated lumber when in contact with concrete.
adjust your stud lenghts to compensate for floor slope.
sheet sides and top with plywood for shear strength.
when putting appliances in garages you usually need to add balisters in front so you don't hit them with a car.
Wter htrs weigh a lot so build it strong
