water hammer

The hot water in my shower had started to stink. So, I took my hot water heater apart and installed a new anode rod and heating element. There was about 5 inches of calcium build up in the bottom. I cleaned all that out. The water smells fine now, but I have a water hammer problem. Sometimes when I'm sitting next to the water heater I can hear; glub, glub, glub. It sounds like water is draining out and air is coming in. Any body got any ideas?

That is not water hammer.....water hammer is where you have water moving fast through the pipes and then the valve that was open, quickly closes....the moving volume of water then hammers the point where it stops...if all your pipes are secured properly, you usually don't hear it....if you have a loose pipe....it will bounce around.

I'm going to guess that you might have some air in your water heater....though I'm not sure how it could get trapped in there. Are your globe valves to the heater fully open?

OK. The truth is the commode is the only thing that makes a loud pop when I flush it. The sink and the shower just have air bubbles. I bleed them, but the bubbles seem to come back the next day. I don't know what globe valves are but I'll ck into that. Thanks for your reply.
P.S. I'm a roofing contractor and don't know much about plumbing.

I didn't know much about plumbing until I jumped into it......that is why we ask questions......

A globe valve is that multi-turn shut off valve.....I hate them....they only seem to seal the first time....after that, they never seem to completely close....I prefer ball valves.....

I think you need to go into more detail on your symptoms so the experts here can chime in....
