Water hammer

Where would you put water hammer arrestors in this situation: 1 2 or 3? If 2 or 3 I would use a 90 to ensure the arrestor is vertical.

I plan on moving that one to a corner because it's not effective in that spot; I also want one on the cold and hot side. If this doesn't work I'm scrapping the Bosch for a navian

Lets make sure you really have a water hammer issue.

Can you describe exactly how it sounds?

When the hot side is turned on, almost directly above the heater, the entire unit shakes and thudthudthudthudthud sound. Because of this the unit error's out 20% of the time, forcing me to reset the unit. After installed the cold side on on the horizontal pipe the errors were less frequent but it has gotten worse again.
