water bill

we have cleveland city water.our latest bill just went up almost 400% !!!! It said my family of 3 used 600 gallons of water per day for the last 3 months. service man was here and found no leaks. How is this possible.Could the meter go bad and over read the water usage?

If you walk out and look at the meter, can you see any dials spinning or moving, if you see movement, then you have a leak somewhere, and leak in ground might not be visible.

Humidifier Is this always running? Could that be your cause?

If not maybe the meter reader got the numbers all wrong.

Less the 1 gal a min.

Do you have a clean out on the mainline outside where you can open it up and look for water flow down it?

No water flow at the outside cleanout at this time.Is it possible that the meter is defective, and reading more water than what we are using?

I've never seen it before but it could be possible. Call the water district, explain the situation and have them send someone out there to check it out.

Put food coloring in all your toilets. you may have a bad flapper. it will only run when the water drops enough to trip the balcock. you may have missed that. put some food coloring in the tank of your toilet and wait and see if the color bleeds into the bowl..

turns out ,the city was getting bad readings for the last 3 Quarterly bills and I was under billed so they make it up all at once..we did have a price increase at the start of '07 so I didn't notice the under billing because the bills stayed close to the same. They use a remote and read as they drive by.

Sorry, I am bringing this thread back to life.

I also see a huge sudden increase of my water bill.

I get my water bill once every two months and here's what my consumption looks like
01/20/10 - 0
02/19/10 - 0
05/14/10 - 1
08/06/10 - 6
11/03/10 - 5
02/28/11 - 1
05/13/11 - 134

The house was being build till end of March 2011 so that's why there's no water usage. I didn't move into the house till early June 2011 so the water bill for May looks accurate to me.

This is a brand new house with 2 person living in there, and I have an irrigation system installed around June 10th 2010 (last year). I guess I should be kind of surprise that my last August bill is kind of low consider I watered twice a day, 15 minutes each zone and I have 5 zones.

My question would be what are the chances that my water meter was misread for the past few bills and now it is corrected? It is just mind bothering that the water meter is brand new and it is one of the that can be read wirelessly so how could it get misread?
