Water backing up

At times when I run the washing machine and it drains, the toilets will not flush(they simply fill with water and overflow to the floor). The bathtub fills up with the water from the washer, and sometimes the water even backs up and comes from the bottom of the toilets and floods the bathroom. I plunge for a while at one of the toilets and finally all the water appears to drain. Then the problem goes away for awhile, however, there is always a gurgling sound in the master bath when the washer drains. Any ideas what could cause this to happen.

The mainline that these fixtures connect to is clogged up, or if on a Septic Tank, it could be full, either get the mainline cleaned out or have tanj checked out if on a septic.
