Washer Standpipe Height

I am building a new house and intend to install a front load washer that is 40" tall along with a drawer/stand that is 15" tall for a total height of 55". Does the standpipe need to be 55" or will a shorter standpipe work without causing any problems?

Thanks to anyone taking the time to answer my question.

That information is available from your washer manufacturer. The height of the drain entry is critical to the proper performance of the machine. Pedestal machines may require a higher discharge drain level.

You are building a new house, and the washer is 55" high, what happens if you move and the next washing machine is shorter. Here in MA we set the height at about 36" to 48", usually stub out from the wall at 18" and stand pipe must be in between 18" and 30". I would set it at about the height of the flat top of the washer, excluding the top that has all the buttons on it, if that is what you have.

Lyndon,
You might want to check out one of these too. They aren't that expensive and let you get the dryer closer to the wall.

Bravacv,

Thanks for the reply. That is one of the reasons I was asking the question. If I put it at 55" high and in a few years buy a top load machine that is 38" high will the new machine have a problem discharging at 55" high - not to mention how dumb it would look to have a hose behind a top loader going up the wall 55".

So I was wondering if it could be lower than 55" - maybe at the middle of the drum of the front loader?

Firehawkmph,

Thanks for the link. I had looked at these in a store but appreciate the reminder and the direct link for further review.
