Very strange PEX plumbing, is it a good idea to replace it?

After removing the tub in a bathroom renovation, I saw the plubming shown in the attached images.

The tube going under the tub will definitely be replaced. But what about the two tubes going up with all those elbows in them? Do they restrict the flow? (Note that these tubes go directly to and from the water heater on the other side of the wall, which means that all the hot water in the house goes through them.) And is there a better way to make a PEX tube to go out of a wall and turn 90 degrees than two elbows?

That grey pipe is polybutylene, and was outlawed years ago. Yeah, there's better ways to run all those water lines, but the first step is to remove ALL of the PB.

And the white pipe is probably not PEX either, perhaps it says on the pipe itself. The elbows definitely create pressure loss, but maybe not a big problem, if your pressure at the source is adequate. The polybutylene piping is likely a bigger issue than the elbows.

All of the tubing is PEX, it says right on it. It's a mixture of various brands of PEX tubing, though, not just one.

And I once did another project that involved revoving some of the gray tubing, and it is actually white. The dark color was from mineral buildup on the inner surface of the tubing.

Slightly off topic.....what is with the peg board on the wall? Ventilation into the insulation?

Seeing your pics makes me glad I have copper.
