Vent problem or other??

Last year I installed new fixtures in my bathroom. The new toilet (low-flush from Kholer) work great for most of the time. however, let's just say that I tend to "clog" toilets routinely. With this new one, I can not just grab the plunger and plunge-away. I find that when I plunge, I can hear the sound of air going up the vent. I am not sure what the issue is, but the solution is for me to go on the roof, cover the vent with my hand, while somebody inside plunges.

Ideas?

In the past you were getting clogs before the vent. You are now getting clogs after the vent. I'd look into a better flushing toilet. Or you could get a toilet auger however if you have a lead bend using it on a regular basis will eventually damage it.

I never used the original toilet, so I have no idea if the problem was there before....

If someone needs to block the vent to plunge, this tells me the main drainline is the problem and the vent is clear. If you cannot find a clean-out, you may need to remove the toilet and auger out the line from there.

The answer then that you are not clogging the toilet, you are clogging the waste line further down the line past your vent. You can probably use a toilet auger to clear it without having to have someone go up on the roof. For a long term solution look into a better flushing toilet, even a pressure tank if necessary.
