Vent Pipe Cap?
I was up on the roff this AM and just now noticed that the waste line vent pipe does not have a cap. Should it?
The pipe is black, 3" diameter, with a rubber boot under the shingles. |

Vent Pipe Cap?
Wouldn't a cap prevent the flow of air through the system. That's the point of a vent.

Vent Pipe Cap?
There are special vent caps that do not fit tight to the cap. I estimate that less than half of the houses in my area have caps on the vents. I suspect they are not needed because if it rains down the cap, so what, it goes into the drain. The cap is probably there to keep birds, bees etc from nesting in your cap.
